# Tensions

> Capture and process organizational friction collaboratively.

In Corgtex, a **Tension** is defined as the gap between the current reality and a potential future.

Tensions are not inherently negative. A tension could be a frustrating bottleneck ("Reimbursements take too long"), or it could be an exciting opportunity ("We should enter the APAC market").

Surfacing tensions is the primary driver of evolution in a self-managing organization.

## Capturing a Tension

Corgtex makes capturing tensions incredibly low-friction.

1. **Via the UI:** Navigate to the Tensions dashboard and log what you are experiencing.
2. **Via Slack:** Send a message to the Corgtex bot describing your idea or frustration.
3. **During Check-ins:** Tensions are often surfaced during weekly tactical meetings or async check-ins.

When you capture a tension, you provide:

* A brief description of the gap.
* (Optional) A proposed solution.
* (Optional) The specific Circle or Role this tension relates to.

## Processing Tensions

Once a tension is captured, it resides in an `OPEN` state.

Corgtex provides visibility into all open tensions within a Circle. Team members can view, comment on, and **Upvote** tensions to signal shared priority.

To resolve a tension, it usually needs to be translated into an action:

<CardGroup cols={2}>
  <Card title="Action / Project" icon="list-check">
    If the tension can be resolved by someone simply doing the work they are already accountable for, it becomes an Action/Task assigned to their Role.
  </Card>

  <Card title="Governance Proposal" icon="file-signature" href="/decide/proposals">
    If the tension requires changing the rules—creating a new role, changing a policy, or requesting budget—it must be translated into a Proposal.
  </Card>
</CardGroup>

## AI Assistance

When you are ready to process a tension, Corgtex's AI can help. By clicking "Draft Proposal," the agent will read your tension description, cross-reference it against existing Circle policies using the Organization Brain, and draft a formatted governance proposal aimed at resolving your specific issue.
